How Venerable Educators can be Nominated for Hall of Fame Recognition
During the more than 150 years the Harford County Public School System has been in existence, the county has built a well-earned reputation as one of the best systems in the state and nation. Many ingredients have combined to foster the continuing excellence of the system: a stable and supportive community, positive family values, inspired central office leadership, financial backing by state and local governments, and students who take their education seriously.
Still, most will agree, the single most important factor in the formula for success has been the classroom teachers and building administrators. To honor those who have dedicated their professional lives to building a school system which consistently ranks high in student achievement among Maryland school districts, Harford County Public Schools (HCPS) in cooperation with the Harford County Retired School Personnel Association (HCRSPA), in October, 2000, began recognizing two former HCPS educators each year. Beginning with school year 2006-2007, one or more retired educators are selected each year. The retired educators will have been chosen by HCRSPA in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the system and will be enshrined in the HCPS "Hall of Fame". The men and women chosen also receive a certificate noting their accomplishments. Their names will be added to a plaque in the lobby of the Central Office at the Board of Education.
The legacy of exemplary educators who have built the foundation of which the Harford County Public School System is based helped make our schools as successful as they are today. The "Hall of Fame" recognition acknowledges the contributions not only of those selected but the thousands who have served the children of our county throughout the years.
Criteria
HCRSPA accepts nominations from the public for former educators to be enshrined as members of the Hall of Fame. Several criteria have been established to guide HCRSPA in its selection process.
-
The educator may be living or deceased but must be retired as an educator.
-
The educator should have devoted the majority of his/her career to teaching and/or being a school or central office administrator in Harford County Public Schools.
-
The nominee must have been an educator in the HCPS system for at least 20 years.
-
The educator does not have to be a member of HCRSPA.
The HCRSPA Executive Board will select educators to be recognized from a list of nominees submitted from its membership or other sources. Nominations may be sent to the Chair of the HCRSPA Hall of Fame Committee at P.O. Box 133, Churchville, MD 21028. Nominations may also be made electronically through the link below. The nomination form should include reasons why the educator should be honored, together with a biographical sketch of the nominee (if possible), and an address, phone number, or email address by which the nominee or his/her family may be contacted. The nomination form must also include endorsements from at least two people in addition to the nominator.
